The Petroleum Equipment Institute would like people to be aware of the risk of fires as a result of static electricity at gas pumps. Here are three rules for safe refueling:
When filling up....
- Turn off the engine;
- Do not smoke anywhere near the vicinity of the car or the fuel source;
- Never re-enter your vehicle while refueling, as this can cause a spark and lead to a fire in the vehicle.
For more information, contact www.pei.org and click on "stop static".
